I went to the Marian Goodman Gallery in London to see the Éphémères exhibition by Christian Boltanski. It was quite intimidating to step into and mysterious from the moment I walked through the doors of the gallery. There was a sheet you had to step through to enter the actual exhibition, and multiple different sheets with photos printed on them with singular lightbulbs lighting them up through the middle. Then there were screens either side showing bells in the wind and with a dirt infant of the first one and scrunched up balls of paper in front of the second one. Walking further on there was a room that had bits of cloth hanging down with projections on them.
I liked how this exhibition experimented with light and sound to show the images in quite an abstract way, the ambient sound of the bells gave the exhibition quite an alternative and odd feeling when walking through it. The lighbulbs and different kinds of projections also made the exhibition unique, the different ways the videos and images had been projected onto sheets and screens in the different rooms again gave the whole exhibition an abstract feel. I personally did not like the rooms with the screens and the bells, I didnt think it was very original just filming these and they didn't really grasp my attention. I liked the hallway with the sheets and lightbulbs because I thought that was quite original and I liked how it was done, I also liked the dark room with the sheets hanging down and lights projected onto them, I thought this was quite interesting to see.
